AN/APS-137(V) Search Radar
|
According to Forecast International, "the APS-137(V) was designed as a search radar to detect and track surface vessels, submarine periscopes, and snorkels in high sea states." The radar was used in the Navy's P3 Orion surveillance aircraft for various purposes, including submarine hunting. The P3 is replaced by the P8 Poseidon aircraft, which uses a newer radar, designated AN/APY-10. The newer radar may use the same frequency range as the legacy APS-137(V), but that is not confirmed.
Please refer to the linked document from Forecast International for detailed technical information on the APS-137(V).
