Hurricane Watch Net

Amateur radio operators provide assistance to the U.S. National Hurricane Center by facilitating communications into and out of areas affected or possibly affected by hurricanes. The Hurricane Watch Net is comprised of approximately 40 licensed amateur radio operators spread across the U.S., the Caribbean, and Central America. According to the Hurricane Watch Net Web site, "the Hurricane Watch Net activates on 14.325.00 MHz whenever a hurricane is within 300 miles of projected landfall or becomes a serious threat to a populated area."
